3M™ Lead Foil Tape 420 is a highly conformable, electrically and thermally conductive tape designed for demanding industrial applications. This dark silver lead foil backed tape features a distinct green rubber adhesive that provides excellent initial grab and long-lasting bonds that remove cleanly from most surfaces. The tape is specifically engineered to resist flame, moisture, weather, UV degradation, and many chemicals commonly used in electroplating and anodizing processes, making it ideal for critical masking and shielding applications.
The exceptional conformability of this lead foil tape allows it to be formed into detailed and intricate shapes and patterns, or die-cut into specific configurations to meet precise assembly and manufacturing process requirements. The lead foil backing can be burnished to fully cover the adhesive and establish direct metal-to-metal contact with the base surface, which results in a continuation of the electrical path and reduces build-up at the adhesive interface. This feature is particularly valuable for applications requiring reliable electrical conductivity and thermal performance.
With a total thickness of 6.8 mil and a lead foil backing of 5 mil, this tape comes with an easy-release film liner that facilitates handling and die-cutting operations. The rubber-based adhesive bonds exceptionally well to a variety of surfaces including most metals, and the tape performs reliably over a wide temperature range from -60°F to 225°F (-51°C to 107°C).
