3M™ Lead Foil Tape 420 is a premium electrically and thermally conductive tape designed for demanding industrial applications. This highly conformable tape features a dark gray lead foil backing coated with a distinctive green rubber adhesive that provides excellent initial grab and long-lasting bonds while removing cleanly from most surfaces. The tape resists flame, moisture, weather, UV degradation, and many chemicals commonly used in electroplating and anodizing processes, making it ideal for critical masking and shielding applications.
The lead foil backing can be burnished to fully cover the adhesive and allow complete contact of the lead foil to the metal base, resulting in metal-to-metal contact that continues the electrical path and reduces build-up at the adhesive interface. This extremely conformable and pliable tape can be formed into detailed and intricate shapes and patterns, or die-cut into specific shapes to meet assembly and manufacturing process requirements. With an easy-release film liner, the tape enables precision cutting and application for complex geometric patterns.
This specialized tape is formulated to deliver strong acid and base resistance, making it exceptionally suitable for electroplating operations, radiation barrier applications, moisture barriers, and chemical milling processes. The rubber-based adhesive bonds well to a variety of surfaces, including most metals, and performs reliably over a wide temperature range from -60°F to 225°F.
