3M™ Double Coated Tape 9731 is a high-performance adhesive tape specifically engineered for demanding applications involving silicone materials and elastomers. This specialized tape features a unique combination of acrylic and silicone adhesives applied to both sides of a thin, flexible 1 mil clear polyester film (PET) carrier. The face side is coated with 3M™ Adhesive 350, a high-performance acrylic adhesive that provides exceptional adhesion to a wide variety of materials, while the liner side features a silicone-based adhesive that bonds exceptionally well to silicone substrates and rubber materials.
The tape comes with dual liners for optimal performance and ease of application: a 58# polycoated kraft paper (PCK) liner on the primary side and a 3 mil polyester film (PET) liner on the secondary side. These liners provide reliable performance for industrial applications including die-cutting and automated dispensers, while also helping to reduce edge curl and protect the tape from humidity extremes. The 1 mil clear polyester carrier provides excellent dimensional stability and improved handling characteristics, making it ideal for precision die-cutting and lamination processes.
3M™ Double Coated Tape 9731 is ideal for gasketing applications, filter assembly, and bonding silicone foams and rubber components. It delivers instant adhesion, exceptional temperature resistance up to 250°F (121°C), outstanding chemical and solvent resistance, very good holding power, and excellent UV resistance. This tape is perfect for pre-applying to gasketing material that is then die-cut to provide finished parts, as well as for replacing gaskets or bonding and sealing simultaneously in air and liquid filters, fluid handling equipment, and heat exchangers.
